We recently bought a new boar for our show operation, only now we have gilts ready to breed but he cant get his penis out of his sheath.  Any one ever hear of this and is there anything I can do to fix it.  Help!!!!

A good friend of mine just had the same problem.  His new hamp boar would mount the gilts, but the sheath had something wrong with it and the penis could not extend.  It could be that the opening of the sheath is too small, or the penis may even be obstructed further back.  My friend was told by his vet that the only solution was surgical.  Try a call to your vet.   If your boar was purchased with a breeding guarantee, you should contact the person you bought the boar from and get a refund or a replacement.:(

Thanks for the reply, both have been done (vet and seller). It sounds as though we may get a replacement, only its too late now three of my gilts have gone out of heat.   So now I guess I will have Feb. pig.
