Had a guy contact me the other evening that goes out and scouts cattle for sales. Has anyone had much experience with this? What can I expect? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

are you talking about a Consultant that is working for that particular sale for that day, had you inquired about a particular animal in an upcoming sale he is working? If that is the case ask him basic questions of structure, pedigree, past history of the dam, go online and lookup the pedigree and the calves out of her and what they have done, give him an idea of what your budget might be, if he is being paid by that firm he is paid to give his best assesment, if you don't want to share your budget, is it going to be online? Not sure I'm on the right trail, keep in mind not too many people have the same eye for cattle.

No, this guy works for a farm that has two sales and is wanting cattle for the sale. He is traveling over a few states and looking for cattle to fill this sale. I wasn't sure if I should go in with a price in mind or how to approach it. I know not to give the price right away that I'm thinking of, etc. This person isn't familiar with Simmi genetics.

several items to ponder is, is it an established sale, is it promoted and advertised properly, what has their average been in sales past, what is their budgeted commission charge, will it be good exposure for you, will your animal add to the sale and possibly be a higher averaging calf, several things to weigh out. Good Luck!
